5 Things to Do Near New York City’s Central Park

1. Take in the views from Central Park's Belvedere Castle
Belvedere Castle is the second highest natural elevation in Central Park, and the castle’s turret is the highest point in the park. Currently serving as the Henry Luce Nature Observatory, you can see an array of natural history artefacts inside, as well as microscopes and telescopes to help portray how naturalists study the world. If you’re keen on science and nature, you can hire a Discovery Kit for yourself, which includes binoculars, a hand lens, flora and fauna guides, maps, paper and pens.
2. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art
On the eastern edge of Central Park is the Metropolitan Museum of Art, often shortened to just The Met. As one of the world's largest and finest art museums, its collection includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe.

3. Row your way around Central Park's Lake
From April to November, you can rent a boat from Loeb Boathouse and take a rowing tour around the Lake, Central Park’s second largest body of water (only The Reservoir is bigger). If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, you can take a gondola ride if you book in advance. Boating is a great way to see the park’s famous egrets, herons and loons that are hard to see from the shore.
4. Study at the New York Public Library
Take your books and brush up on your English skills at the New York Public Library, one of the largest libraries in the world. It’s a stunning place to work with lavish ceilings and over 50 million items in its total collection. To properly explore this world of books, join one of the library’s free guided tours, or pick up an audio guide.
5. See a Broadway show
Just moments away from Central Park is the glitz and glamor of Broadway. See anything from a Disney musical to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. If you’re more into dance, you can see a performance from one of New York City’s two ballet companies, New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre.
