5 Reasons Why Seattle is the Best City in the USA

Seattle just has so many things going for it, of course it's the best city in the country. Kaplan teaches English at two schools here, one in the center of the city's university district, and the other on Highline College's campus.

1: Coffee

Seattle loves coffee. They love to make it. They love to drink it. In fact, Seattle residents drink more coffee than any other city in the country.

You've probably heard of Starbucks, which started here as a small store before becoming the international giant it is today. Seattle has plenty of other coffee shops, though. In fact, there are 2.5 shops for every 10,000 people that live in the city.

2: Clean Air

Unfortunately, major cities are often known for being polluted and dirty, at least compared to the average. This is not true in Seattle. It ranks as one of the cleanest cities in the country when it comes to clean air, drinking water quality, and trash handling.

If you want to live in a big, modern city without sacrificing your lungs, Seattle is the place for you. Clean air is extra important when you're hiking through the gorgeous wilderness and mountains surrounding Seattle.

3: Safety

Seattle is hands down one of the safest cities of its size in the country. It ranks second in safety for pedestrians and cyclists, which is good since there's so many of them here. The city also ranks fourth when it comes to crime, boasting very low violent crime rates.

Combined with the clean air and water we mentioned earlier, chances are you'll be living a long, healthy life by coming to Seattle.

4: Big Business

There are four Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Seattle. That doesn't even include those just outside the city but still inside the Seattle metro, like the massive Microsoft.

5: Beer

75% of America's hops – a major ingredient in beer – comes from the nearby Yakima Valley. So it's not surprising that Seattle is home to thousands of breweries. The city is known for its beer culture almost as much as its coffee.
