Jobs That Didn't Exist 10 Years Ago
Think about what you were doing 10 years ago: You didn't have a facebook or twitter account, and it's almost certain that your parents thought "social media" meant reading a newspaper as a group. There's also a chance that you were on a dial-up internet connection and that eBay was as far as you would go to buy something online.
However, things change very quickly, especially in technology. Technological advances and cultural changes also mean that new jobs are being created all the time.
Let’s look at some examples of new career options that did not exist 10 years ago.
1. App Developer
The iPhone was introduced in 2007, the first Android phone shortly after. Since then, more than a million apps have been put up for sale in Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play.
2. Social Media Manager
Loads of social media sites have emerged in the last 10 years and companies took advantage of them a few years later to build their brands and to foster discussions to build communities out of those interested in the products/services the company provide. You have probably chatted on facebook or twitter with our very own in-house social geeks, Rob and Hazel.
3. Sustainability Expert
As companies become more conscious about the environment, they have started new “green” roles, hiring people whose responsibility is centered around recycling, waste reduction and generally lowering the carbon footprint of the business.
4. User Experience Designer
UX designers study and evaluate how users feel about a system, looking at such things as ease of use, perception of the value of the system, utility, efficiency in performing tasks and so forth. After this they optimize the system/product to better fit the user’s experience.
5. Elder-Care Services Coordinator
An aging population and increasing interest in at-home or like-home care are factors in the growth of the elder-care services coordinator role. People who understand ageing and end-of-life issues, and who can stay on top of health-care regulation and follow developing trends in elder-care best practices would be well-suited to this role.
6. Search Engine Optimization Specialist
Search engine optimization pros use a combination of left- and right-brain techniques, from analysis and experimentation to gut feel and insight, to move their clients' or employers' Web sites up the search engine rankings, bringing them more traffic and, they hope, stronger revenues.
7. Data Miner
Data miners are looking for behavioral patterns to help retailers and businesses predict future trends or to build recommendation engines or personalized advertising.
8. Yoga / Zumba / Pilates instructor
While all these exercising methods existed before, it’s a recent trend for them to be widespread around the globe. You will probably see at least one of them in every gym that you encounter.

The level of innovation occurring right now is growing very quickly and seems as if it will continue even more quickly in the future.
Already, one London borough uses holograms instead of receptionists! This rapid development in technology means that, even in a few years, the job you will be applying for might not exist right now.
