Kaplan City Guide: Miami

If you’re looking for white sand beaches, bright blue water, and a fun, energetic city with a fiery personality, look no further because Miami is calling. Whether you want to spend your time sprawled out on a blanket beneath the blazing sun or tasting all the delicious Latin-inspired cuisines scattered throughout the city, there is sure to be something new to discover. We talked to some of our students who studied at Kaplan Miami, and here’s what they had to say about their favorite city.

The beach is the place to be

“It's a cosmopolitan city, in which you can always find something to do. This amazing city never sleeps. The nightlife is amazing and the beaches are beautiful.”

Leonardo Soto, Venezuela

If there is one thing that Miami is known for, it’s definitely the amazing beaches. If you’re considering a holiday on the beach, the best destination for you is the South Beach, which is one of the most popular coastal attractions in the USA. South Beach is located east of Miami between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Sightseeing in South Beach Miami will be a classic unforgettable experience for you; you’ll find visitors dressed in formal clothes and exotic swimwear, and many entertainment venues along the beach. If you like, you can even take part in some of the more extreme activities, such as skiing and parasailing.

Discover Miami's culture and music

“What I like most about Miami is that there are always events: concerts, festivals, shows, or other events. There is always something to do in this city.”

Tip provided by:

Deborah de Souza Feder, France

Miami is a diverse cultural melting pot, which can be seen in the range of music venues and concerts throughout the city. From world-class symphony orchestras and opera at University of Miami’s Frost School of Music – where more than 300 performances are held annually – to dance and pop music at the American Airlines Arena, where artists such as Taylor Swift or Justin Timberlake perform their concerts. Of course, you can’t forget about the Latin music that is part of cultural identity of the city. If you’re an international music enthusiast, then the Ultra Music Festival is the one for you. This festival is held every year in March for 3 days and is considered the largest music event of the year.

Sample the local cuisine

“Miami has a great mix of American and Latin cultures and there is a lot of great local culture to experience. Definitely try some of the local Latin food!”

Yulia Basova, Russia

You can’t come to Miami without tasting a bit of the delicious Latin cuisines. The city is famous for it! Or maybe you’d like to try a bit of fusion food, with recipes inspired by the many Latin and American cultures that make Miami such a vibrant place. Grab a seat at a restaurant by the beach and enjoy the many flavors and fabulous sites that this city has to offer. What’s better than an authentic (and delicious) dinner and a stunning ocean view?
