Kaplan Launch English Learning App For Children

Kaplan International Colleges has teamed up with Picaro to develop a new English learning app for children aged 3 and above.

Picaro Play’ is a free interactive storybook app, available on the iPad and iPhone exclusively through the App Store in the Games category, featuring spelling and word activities that help familiarise children with common English words.

The app allows children to follow the rhyming story of Kim and Peter Picaroon who go out to play in the rain, learning about weather, clothing and colours as they get involved in the story.

As the story progresses, children can also get involved in spelling and word games, where they must drag and drop the letters of the Picaroons’ names, and splash in puddles as they spell out new words.

‘Picaro Play’ is perfect for children learning English as a second language, or for young children beginning to learn to read and spell as it helps them to recognise new words and letters on each page.

Christina Boettner, Head of Product at Picaro, said: “We wanted to create something that was fun while also being educational and accessible to everyone. ‘Picaro Play’ is the perfect way to teach children English or just improve reading and spelling when you are on the go, on your phone or tablet.”

Picaro helps children aged between 4 and 9 learn English and prepare for Cambridge ESOL Young Learners (YLE) Examinations through online tools as well as books and classroom materials.

Picaro is aligned with the Common European Framework (CEFR) and Cambridge English: Young Learners (YLE), the world’s leading assessment of children’s English ability.

Fox International Channels’ BabyTV, University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, and Kaplan International Colleges are supporters of Picaro.
