Life@Kaplan: A Visit to Kaplan Edinburgh

The Kaplan Social Team love visiting the schools and getting to meet the staff and students, so last week we were really happy when Kaplan Edinburgh invited us to their bake sale!

The school was hosting the charity bake sale for Comic Relief; a British charity that raises money for poor and disadvantaged people both in the UK and in Africa.

Staff were on baking duty and provided really delicious food. This was a mix of traditional Scottish cakes and international dishes, including cookies, cake pops and some fantastic Kaplan cookies in the shape of a ‘K’.

All of Kaplan Edinburgh's students, their host families (and even the local hairdresser!) were invited to the bake sale. Everyone was extremely generous and the school managed to raise over £400 for the charity.

In the afternoon, Ido, who is new to the Kaplan team, gave an Instagram Master class to the students, followed by a photowalk through some of Edinburgh's most beautiful streets, plus New Town and the Botanical Gardens.

"We were delighted to see so many of our students stay after classes to come along to the Instagram class with Ido,”  said Mike, the Social Organiser for Kaplan Edinburgh, who also took part in the class. "Everyone learned something more about the best ways of using and making the most of Instagram.”

Despite the cold weather, students still had a great time. "The best thing about Edinburgh is the weather!" says Faical, a student from Saudi Arabia. "I'm from a hot country, so I like rain and snow. It's a beautiful city with lots of international people."

His classmate Mohammed from Libya agrees: "I came to study in Edinburgh because it's quiet. There are lots of friendly people here and I have made lots of good friends at the college. Also I get to eat fish and chips and drink cups of tea!"

If you would like to study English in Edinburgh, you can speak to staff and students from the school by visiting their Facebook page. You can also see more photos taken on the photowalk by following the hashtag #KaplanExperience on Instagram.
