Life@Kaplan: Life After Kaplan

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of chatting to Adan Camarillo on Twitter. Adan, from Venezuela is a former student of Kaplan and a huge fan of English learning! Hear from Adan about how much he loved his Kaplan experience and how studying at Kaplan has been a huge benefit to his career and social life!

Which school did you study in?

I studied at the Kaplan Washington DC school, between April and September 2012.

Why did you decide to study English?

For me, English is the most important language in the world. I am an Engineer in Information Technology and in this world, everything is in English, like all the certifications, the most important books, the best conferences, etc. So, after I finished my degree, I decided to study English to complete my CV.

Why did you choose Kaplan?

Kaplan has one of the best acknowledgments in the entire world; I have some friends that studied with Kaplan so they recommended the school to me.

What was the best thing about your experience there?

The best thing about my experience would be two things, the first one the level of my English. I started at Elementary level and in just 5 and a half months, I improved 4 levels. I finished in Higher Intermediate. Secondly, the amazing people than I met there and the friendships I made. My friends were from Saudi, Korea, Brazil, France, Japan, Thailand and Italy. I learned about their culture, food and their traditions.

Where do you work now?

I am working right now in an International Consulting Firm.

Can you explain how learning English has helped you to find a job?

When I came to the interview for my job, my boss asked me what my level of English was. He then said it was awesome because the company were looking for someone to interact with partners outside of Venezuela. I also receive with my salary a bonus for my English level.

How often do you talk to your old classmates?

Almost every day! I really miss them. Last week I went to Colombia to visit some friends. I also met my girlfriend in Washington so I visit her too! Right now, I’m planning to visit my best friend in Brazil for the next year, he is waiting for me.

If you could study at any Kaplan destination, where would it be?

I would select DC again, however, it’s an awesome city, I love It. but if I had another change, I would choose San Francisco or London, I want to learn the British accent!

How would you describe your Kaplan Experience in one sentence?

Unforgettable & Unique!
