Chuffed

Informal. U.K. Slang.

Definition: To be proud, pleased or satisfied

Example: I am chuffed with my high exam score!

Chuffed first came into usage in 1957, though its origins may lie in a word from 1855.

Your teacher may encourage you to use words which are more polite and professional, but chuffed is a word that is used by many English speaking people in the United Kingdom.

It is unlikely that a manager in the workplace would use the word, but you may hear it during a social conversation.

The next time your sports team wins, your best friend visits or you pass an English test, not only will you be content, pleased and satisfied, you will also be chuffed!
